Trivandrum: Pallium India, the palliative care centre in Trivandrum screened ‘Life Before Death’ at the Museum Auditorium on February 3. The screening was organised as part of the World Cancer Day observed on February 4. Popular director Dr Adoor Gopalakrishnan inaugurated the screening.

“Pallium India is doing a great service to the cancer affected and their families. When my mother got cancer there was no cure. The care given by the doctors was the only medicine for her. The pain has now become a disease. The support given by Pallium India has helped many patients to overcome the pain,” said Adoor.

‘Life Before Death’ is a multi-award winning documentary series beautifully filmed through the eyes of patients and their families. This movie uncovers not only the hard truths about the torture occurring everyday in hospitals around the world, but also portrays the immense hope that comes from those health care pioneers brave enough to accompany terminal patients on their inevitable journey to gratifying end-of-life experiences filled with dignity, love and peace.

“Cancer is climbing the Indian graph due to rapid lifestyle changes, adding nearly a million new cases every year. The world should unite to fight against the disease through raising awareness and educating the public,” said Dr. M R Rajagopal, Chairman of Pallium India.

Various awareness programmes have been organised in the city including seminars and workshops with the theme ‘Together It Is Possible’ to observe World Cancer Day.

World Cancer Day is part of the World Cancer Campaign, adopted at the 'World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium' on 04 February 2000. World Cancer Day is observed on February 4 across the world as an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), a global consortium of more than 470 cancer-fighting organizations in over 120 countries. The primary objective of this initiative is to promote awareness about cancer and to encourage people to go for its early prevention, detection, and treatment.
