Trivandrum: The foremost women achievers in science will interact with the girl students interested in the field on February 17 at Sasthra Bhavan, Pattom. This is organised by the Women’s Cell of Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) in connection with International Women’s Day.

The organisers intend to provide exposure to young girls on the importance of research in scientific field and the scope of the subject as a profession and the challenges. The theme of the event is “Women Achievers in Science –Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures”.

“The number of girls involving in research in science is declining day by day. We wanted to inspire at least a few to continue their studies after post graduation. By interacting with scientists they can clear their doubts and worries,” said one of the organiser.

March 8 is celebrated as International Women's Day every year to recognise the economic, political and social achievements of women’s past, present and future.

No change is going to be effective unless the jobs available for scientists and monetary rewards are comparable for other less qualified professions like IT. A BTech with an MBA entering the IT field makes much more than a Ph.D with postdocs ( several) abroad. THat is the bottom line. And this puts off both men and smart women.
