Venkaiah Naidu To Inaugurate National Games

Trivandrum: The 35th National Games will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Venkaiah Naidu here on tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the newly-built Greenfield Stadium at Karyavattom.
    


The Games will start officially once cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, the Goodwill Ambassador of the event, hands over the Games' flame to former sprinter P T Usha and athlete Anju Bobby George.


Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan and other cabinet ministers and MLAs would be present at the function.

The inauguration will be followed by a cultural event, where over 5,000 artists from various states would perform. The three-hour-long cultural event will also include the performance by actor Mohanlal and his band Lalisom - the Lal Effect.

The games will last till February 14 and will conclude with the valedictory ceremony at the Greenfield Stadium, Karyavattom. Governor P Sathasivam and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari would be present at the function.
