Trivandrum: Kazhakootam is all set to become a separate municipality. According to official sources, twelve wards from the corporation will be separated to form this new municipality.

With the formation of the new municipality, many organizations which were the prestige of Trivandrum Corporation including Technopark, ISRO, College of Engineering, and KINFRA will be a part of the new municipality. Also, the corporation will be forced to revise the proposed master plan, since the wards included for the plan are out of the Trivandrum Corporation.

Allegations are rife that the formation of Kazhakootam municipality is just for political mileage. Among the 12 wards, 8 belong to the Left, three for UDF and Sreekaryam being the only independent constituency.

Kazhakootam, Chanthavila, Chempazhanthy, Kattayikonam, Chellamangalam, Njaandoorkonam, Kulathoor, Paundkadav, Attipra, Powdikonam, Pallithura and Sreekaryam will be the wards to be included in the Kazhakootam municipality. At present Trivandrum Corporation has 100 wards in total.

This is the most unfair decisions in recent times. A city that is having immense growth opportunity to become a metro and the authorities are trying to divide the city. This is ridiculous, we should not allow them to proceed with this move. We the residents of Trivandrum should take initiative to act against this issue.

A good decision, all should appreciate. The bifurcation committee rightly pointed out that these wards were included in the corporation for political mileage only. No development has come here, but for higher taxes.
