Tribal Fest From Wednesday

Trivandrum: ‘Paithrikolsavam’, a ten-day festival, jointly organised by the departments of SC and ST development and the Kerala Institute for Research, Training and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Tribes (KIRTADS) will open at the Sooryakanthi Fair Grounds from Wednesday onwards.

The fest will showcase tribal art forms, ethnic cuisines and rare forest produce such as bamboo rice (Mulayari), ragi and honey. The fest will also feature different tribal art forms from across the country and state. The tribal folk arts will be performed every evening at the venue.

The traditional tribal medicinal secrets handed over through generations, will also be featured at the festival. The aim of the fest is to protect and nurture the tribal heritage and culture that are about to disappear.

‘Paithrikolsavam’ will be inaugurated by SC Development Minister A P Anil Kumar on March 11. K Muraleedharan MLA will preside over the function.

ST Development Minister P K Jayalakshmi, Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Shashi Tharoor MP and Mayor K Chandrika are expected to attend the function. The festival will be on till March 20.
