Trivandrum: College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET) gears up to become the platform for TEDx conference(‘x’ standing for independently organised TED event) next February, promising to line up eminent and inspirational speakers and videos, to stimulate conversation and spark dialogues like the city has never seen before. ‘Perseverance’ is to be the theme of the event.

TED, a non profit organisation with the motto ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’, initially brought together people from three spheres-Technology, Entertainment and Design, but has much wider scope at present. TEDx, created to propagate TED’s mission has been designed to give companies, organisations and individuals a platform to stimulate fruitful dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently and consist of a combination of live presenters and TEDTalks videos which stimulate conversations and connections.

“We are just at the initial stages. The ground rules of the conference must be followed and this forms the foundation of any TEDx event. Creating a logo for the event, an event page, twitter account, are just a few things that are part of the initial work,” Sharan Thampi, final year student at CET, and an entrepreneur at the Start-up village, told Yentha.

“We used to watch a lot of TED videos, and were really inspired by TEDx speakers like Freeman Murray and Deepak Ravindran who are part of Start-up village. We wanted to bring something of this scale and dynamism to our college and city. TEDxCET is going to be huge,” he added.
