Symphony Of Strings 2012
Department of Violin, Sri Swathi Thirunal College of Music organises a three-day short-term programme | By Yentha

Trivandrum: The music lovers of the city will be treated with the magic of strings for the coming three days. The programme is being conducted as a part of Sadhana, an academic initiative of the Government of Kerala along with the Department of Violin, Sri Swathi Thirunal Government College of Music, Trivandrum. Eminent scholars, instrumentalists and musicians of international repute will deliver lecture demonstrations and interactive special concerts in Sadhana on ‘Symphony of Strings’ from February 22. 

 

Padmabhushan, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Parur M S Gopalakrishnan will inaugurate this musical symphony at 10 am on February 22 at Dr L Muthiah Bhagavathar auditorium.  The Guest of Honour Transport Minister V S Shivakumar will honour M S Gopalakrishnan. M Subramania Sarma, former Head of the Department of Violin, who received the Pappa Venkatamaiah Award from Music Academy, Chennai will be honoured by Parur M S Gopalakrishnan.

 

“The aim of this programme is to inculcate and foster a culture of academic understanding, greater appreciation and to imbibe the different aspects in the study of Indian Classical Music with special reference to stringed musical instruments. The programme is meant for music students and for the public,” said Professor M N Moorthy, Head of Department of Violin.  

 

On the first day, the lecture demonstration session will commence with ‘Origin and Evolution of Violin Methodology on Practice, Fingering and Bowing Techniques’ by Parur M S Gopalakrishnan at 11 am. Neyveli S Radhakrishna will deliver a demonstration class on ‘spectrum of music double violin’.

The three day music gala will wind up with the interactive violin duet concert at 5.45 pm by Ganesh and Kumaresh along with Palakkad Mahesh Kumar at the mridangam and Perukaavu P L Sudheer playing ghatom. Sports Minister K B Ganeshkumar will be the guest of honour.
