Trivandrum:  The first meeting of the State Security Commission was held here on February 15 at the Police Head Quarters.

Chief Minister Oomen Chandy gave principal approval to increase the strength of the police in the ratio of 200: one lakh people. He also said to have more special trained force to investigate crimes.

The commission also decided to strictly enforce the traffic rules considering the increased number of road accidents. Police presence in ladies compartment will also be ensured in all evening trains in wake of growing number of crimes.  The government has decided to deploy police in trains buying tickets as the Railways have not taken any measures to prevent crime against women in trains.

Jana Maithri programs would be implemented in 100 more police stations to ensure the participation of the people and student police cadets. The student police cadets would be given incentives.

Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, retired Justice K P Balachandran, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K Jayakumar and other commission members were present at the meeting.
