2,557 school students, 1,350 boys and 1,207 girls, will participate in the Championship | By Yentha

Trivandrum: The 58th Kerala State Schools Athletics Championship was flagged off at the Lakshmibai National College for Physical Education (LNCPE), Kariavattom on Monday. The Championship will be on for the next four days in the capital city. 2,557 school students, 1,350 boys and 1,207 girls, will participate in the Championship. Competitions will be held in 95 athletics events.

Monday’s events began with the senior boys’ 5,000m race at 7 a.m. while the 3,000 m race for senior girls and junior boys and girls was held in the first session along with the finals in senior boys discus throw (1.75 kg) and junior girls shot put (4 kg).

DPI in-charge L Rajan hoisted the flag of the schools meet at 9 a.m. while the opening ceremony was inaugurated in the evening by Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb with the march past of all school teams. Rabb declared the games open which was followed by the hoisting of all district flags. The oath was taken by all the participating schools.




Health Minister V S Sivakumar will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony at 4.30 p.m. on Thursday.
