Trivandrum: Transportation of officials and team members from location to location is perhaps one of the most complex tasks at the games. Yentha caught up with the man who seems to have got it all going, almost clockwork.

Yentha started by asking Mr. Sivadasan, who is in charge of transportation at the 35th National Games, about the facilities they have arranged.

“We had given the tender to four private companies for operating buses, minibuses and cars between venues. An expenditure of Rs.7-8 crore has been earmarked for transportation. The companies are providing a total of 58 non AC Buses, 65 A/C and 152 non-A/C mini buses of 12-18 seats and 25-30 seats. Also there will be two types of cars - Innovas and Sedans," said Sivadasan.

"The mini buses are meant to transport athletes, team officials, volunteers and media personnel whereas cabs will be for the Indian Olympic Association fraternity, VIPs and other guests. There will also be 25 buses operating shuttle services to transport athletes to various venues,” added Sivadasan.

On plans to hire KSRTC for such services he said that they asked a total amount of Rs.21,000 per day which was not affordable for the Games Committee. Anyway, KSRTC may help in case of emergency, ”added the former DYSP who was a member of the transportation team in the 1987 Games.

Monitoring of the travel arrangements will be done at the control rooms opened at the Games Village in Menamkulam. With the media not reporting any issues with regard to transportation, one should assume that Sivadasan is certainly doing a commendable job.
