Trivandrum: The railway over bridge at Menamkulam, which was opened recently, makes the accessibility to the Games Village much easier. Although the bridge was inaugurated on 27th ???, vehicles were able to cross it a few days later only.

The heavy vehicles which were hired for the games are also now using the over bridge. The over bridge, jointly constructed by the National Highway wing of PWD and railways is the only direct way to reach Menamkulam from Kazhakoottam and the Greenfield Stadium, Karyavattom.

“We were doing the Games duty at the two ends of the over bridge for a few days. And it’s very clear that the bridge has become a boon to all the residents around as well as for the Games.  Lots of vehicles use the bridge. Although, the construction of footpath is still going on, it’s not affecting the transport,.” said the policemen who were in duty for the National Games at the bridge, while talking to Yentha.

The construction for the over bridge cost around Rs.45 crore, of which Rs.32 crore was from the NH wing of PWD and was completed in a record time of 14 months. The railway constructed a span of 30 metres over the railway line.
