Online Protest Against Corporation Bifurcation
On Jan 28, 2015
|Trivandrum : The bifurcation of Trivandrum City Corporation for the formation of Kazhakkoottam municipality has created unrest among city residents. The prime concern among them is that it will hinder the city, becoming a metro and thus will lose eligibility for various central government schemes.
The citizens have finally decided to create a mass petition requesting a change in its plan to bifurcate the corporation. The petition is an online petition forum 'Change.org' with the title 'Please reconsider the restructuring of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation' Petitioning Chief Minister Of Kerala, Government of Kerala. The petition has already got almost 800 supports till date. The petition is going viral and is shared and signed through social media.
The petition considers all the concerns raised by city residents including losing metro status, loss of income for corporation, etc. "Everywhere else in India, city limits are expanding so that space constraints play no hindrance to development, and also make sure more facilities are available for the remote areas. This new proposal is completely illogical and in no doubt a going back by at least 10 years. In conclusion, the new proposal is not going to benefit anybody (be it Kazhakkoottam or the city/state as a whole). Through this petition, we, as citizens, are declaring our objection to the new proposal," reminds the petition.
Before the online campaign itself, the left, ruling the corporation has protested against the bifurcation move.
