Trivandrum: Onam is round the corner, and the corners of Trivandrum's busy roads are going to see some action like never before. This year, Onam celebrations are scheduled to start on August 28, and the inaugural ceremony would be more spectacular than ever. For one, Narain Karthikeyan is going to do a demo F1 'drive' in the city.  He would race his racing car from the Kowdiar Palace up to Palayam. A few scorching laps at around 300km/h to thrill the crowd and stunts that would give the locals the F1 adrenalin rush which no other sport can give.

“Narain would be in the city this Friday to confirm the plans that have been charted for the August 28 drive,” said Jose Pottamkulam, Narain's friend, and the local co-coordinator of the event. “The Onam celebration is to be scheduled to formally get inaugurated by 4:30 p.m.; the motor show would commence by about 1 in the afternoon,” said Jose who is no stranger to racing. He is a racing enthusiast and team principal of M&N Racing and one responsible for bringing Narain to the city.

The three-hour motor show is to be a feast for every motor freak in the city. There is will be a collection of fancy cars, vintage cars and designer cars which would be paraded down the street. The path for the parade still remains to be finalised. “It would be either the Kowdiar–Vellayambalam–Sasthamangalam stretch or the Kowdiar–Vellayambalam–Palayam stretch,” hints Jose.

“He will take a lap around the stretch and then do some stunts for the crowd. His performance would last around 25 minutes but some parts of the stretch need repair,” Jose added. Narain Karthikeyan would be in the city primarily to meet Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar to exchange the letter of intent, and to walk down the mooted paths to examine them in detail and make sure to have everything made safe for the show," said Jose. There would be stunt performances by various teams from all over the state, including the city's own internationally acclaimed biking stunt team - Ghost Ryderz.

The inaugural ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium. The week-long festivities would be held at Kanakakunnu Palace Grounds which would hold six separate venues. The stretch between Kowdiar and East Fort would be illuminated and the buildings would be lit up.
