Trivandrum: The city Corporation has come up with a Women’s Technology Park in Trivandrum. The new venture is the upgraded version of the skill training centre for women at Kannammoola. The project is expected to cost about Rs.30 lakh.

The skill training centre for women is aimed at training women from economically backward families in skills such as tailoring and handicrafts. With the up gradation of the centre to a Women’s Technology Park, it is expected that technically qualified but unemployed women from poor families will get more opportunities.

Women will be selected from eligible families, based on their qualification. Laptops will be provided free and also no rent would be charged for the space provided. The Computer Training Centre will monitor the Women’s Technology Park while Keltron would supply computers to the park.

The Corporation will deduct the running charges of the centre from the park's income. Initially, the park is supposed to have 15-20 women. Depending on the progress, there are plans to add more employees and even to introduce a 'shift' system.

The work at the park is almost over and it is expected to start functioning later in April.  The old training centre at Kannammoola will be shifted to Muttada, officials added.
