Trivandrum: The tallest flag pole of the country will soon stand erect at the Kanakakkunnu Palace Grounds by the end of this month, proudly holding the tri colour. The Department of Tourism confirmed to Yentha that they have received the government order and requisite land has been allocated as well.

“The Flag Foundation of India would be sending a special labour force who are trained specially for this kind of a job. It was a minor case of miscommunication between the concerned departments that resulted in this delay,”  informed Praveen - Shashi Tharoor's Secretary.

It had been on special recommendation from the MP that the Flag Foundation had granted permission for the flag pole at Kanakakkunnu, which is expected to turn into a major tourist attraction.

“Everyone is keen to see it happen, including us,” said a spokesman of the Flag Foundation of India. “Once the work starts, it would require us only three weeks to put up the flag pole. So Trivandrum should get the distinction of being home to the tallest flag pole in India by the end of this month.”

The flag pole is of 206 feet high, with a diameter of 4m at the base. Once completed, the entire structure would weigh more than 12 tonnes, bearing the tricolour which would weigh 27 kilograms. The top of the flag pole will be attached with special lights to illuminate the flag during night time, a sight which would be visible from almost anywhere within city limits.
