Trivandrum: Putting an already power deficient state into further crisis, the government has announced the commencement of 30 minutes load shedding, which would be imposed all over the state with immediate effect.

The northern parts of India have been reeling under successive grid failures affecting rail traffic and public life. Power is yet to be fully restored to the twenty states in North India, which have been affected by the grid failure. The Centre has accused the states of renting out more power that originally allocated as the reason for the failure of the grid.

All South Indian states and the union territory of Puducherry have managed to survive through the grid failure that took place in the north. And it was for this South Indian states that the Centre had to put additional pressure on its reserves, causing the grids to get damaged. Kerala will from now on have 685MW shortage in the net power that is made available from the Centre.

Meanwhile, poor monsoon continues in the state. The hydroelectric reservoirs in the state have enough water to last only for 45 more days at the current rate of consumption.
