Trivandrum: The 12th Aravindan Memorial Lecture at the 19th edition of IFFK was delivered by Sumitra Peries, renowned Srilankan film director.

She remembered the epic film maker Aravindan by emphasising that he had a magical realism in his way of storytelling. She mentioned the effort Aravindan put in his film Kummatti before the digitalised technology world.

“The simplicity and the humble presentation of the film Kummatti made it outstanding. In the South Asian Film Festival held at Japan, Kummatti was well received by the Japanese audience and Aravindan also got a chance to meet the famous director Akira Kurosowa. No magician can bring back Aravindan, but his magical movies can make him alive for a hundred years more.” said Peries.

Shaji N Karun and Adoor Gopalakrishnan were among those present at the lecture.
