Palakkad: The Union Minister for Railways, Dinesh Trivedi on Tuesday laid the
foundation stone for the much-awaited Kanjikode Railway coach factory.
Rs.555 crores is being invested for the coach factory, which will
manufacture high quality coaches for the Indian Railways. The factory
will be equipped with the most modern technologies for coach
manufacturing. |
In his inaugural speech, Trivedi said that the Kanjikode factory, expected to be the best in the country would be a landmark project for both Kerala and the Indian Railways. Union Minister K H Muniyappa, State Minister Aryadan Muhammad and legislators and MPs from Kerala also attended the function, which was presided over by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
The Chief Minister in his presidential address requested Trivedi for a separate railway zone for Kerala. He also appealed for the support of the Indian railways for various railway projects underway in the state, such as the Kochi metro, high-speed rail corridor, MEMU trains and monorails in Trivandrum and Kozhikode.
