Trivandrum: The documentation process of the wealth uncovered at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple began on Monday with two committees appointed by the Supreme Court jointly documenting the articles from the E and F vaults amidst tight security. The experts committee headed by conservationist M V Nair and Committee Of Temple Treasures headed by former High Court Judge M N Krishann decided to seek a directive for opening the vaults A to D which remains sealed by the Principal Sub Court.

The E and F chambers mostly contain utensils used for daily rituals. These utensils were subjected to the process of Digital Archiving of Temple Antiques (DATA), whereby each utensil was photographed using 3D cameras, subjected to X-ray fluorescence and given a 10 digit antique identification number. The articles were taken out by the temple priests themselves as a mark of reverence for the temple customs and after DATA were carried out on them, returned to the respective vaults.

The inventorying process was to begin with the opening of C vault, but eventually the committee decided against it on the basis of a standing order ruled by Principal Sub Court. The DATA process for each article takes at least half an hour and the entire documentation process is expected to last well over a year. The report will detail the  size and shape of each object, it's susceptibility to gases  and any signs of damage, amongst others. The evaluation of the temple treasure would be done during the second phase of the process.
