Civil Services Basketball Tournament Gets Underway At Trivandrum
The four-day event at Central Stadium here will see participation from 18 teams and over 200 sportspersons from all across India | By Yentha

Trivandrum: The All India Civil Service Basketball Tournament was inaugurated at the Central Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The inaugural function was presided over by K Muraleedharan MLA, in the absence of V S Shivakumar, Minister for Transportation and Devaswom. Amit Malik IFS, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, delivered the welcome address on the occasion.

 

 

In his presidential address, K Muraleedhran MLA mentioned the importance of sports in the daily life of an average person.

“As the participants in the tournament consist of veterans as well as youngsters, it sends a strong message for all people to get involved in sports, with age no bar,” he said.

 

 

Padmini Thomas, President of Kerala State Sports Council, delivered the keynote address and expressed concern about the rampant use of drugs in the national sports scene.

 

 

“Drugs are not needed to enhance sporting abilities. As President of Kerala State Sports Council, I will ensure that drug usage is eradicated from the sports scene in the state.”

The four-day event will see participation from 18 teams and more than 200 sports persons from all across India. The teams made a march past before the Guest of Honor, K Muraleedharan MLA at the beginning of the function. Dr. G Kishore, Principal, LNCPE and D Mohanan, President, District Sports Council also spoke on the occasion.

 

 

The matches would be played on a league-cum-knockout basis.

The four-day event is to conclude on February 25.
