The Festival Of Books Unveiled
Ananthapuri hosts a ten day book fest for bibliophiles | By Yentha

Trivandrum: Renowned poet ONV Kurup inaugurated the 5th Grand Kerala Shopping Festival Trivandrum Book Fare 2011 at the Sanskrit College campus today. The ten day long fest is organised by the Kerala Institute of Children's Literature intending to encourage the reading habit among children and youngsters.

 

 

“Every parent should insist their child to read books. The books they read should evoke the seventh sense of a child and the child should fall in love with books. Thus forms a culture among us, a society with ignited minds,” said ONV.

 

 

The veterans of Malayalam literature Changampuzha, Thakazhi, Pala Narayanan Nair, Vailopilli, and Shooranad KunjanPillai were remembered and honoured at this function.

 

The main highlight of the event was 'Gurumulkazhcha', the inuguration of a collection of books on Sree Narayana Guru. The function was followed by a musical performance by Salt & Pepper fame Pushpavathy and Sudheer Mulloorkara and team from Thrissur performed 'Thiriuzhichil', a folklore among the 'Pulluva' community of Kerala.

 

 

More than 100 publishers have showcased their titles in 77 stalls at the festival. Books based on Indian Mythology and Malayalam translations of acclaimed world classics are also exhibited here. These include tales of Thenali Raman, books on 'Dasavathara' and Buddhist folk tales.
