Ananthapuri Charmed In The Symphony Of Strings
The three-day music programme at Sri Swathi Thirunal College of Music receives wider appreciation | By Yentha

Trivandrum: Padmabhushan, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Parur M S Gopalakrishnan inaugurated ‘Symphony of Strings’ organised by the Department of Violin as a part of Sadhana, an academic initiative of the Government of Kerala at Sri Swathi Thirunal Government College of Music, Thycaud, Trivandrum on February 22.

 

 

“Music is Nadhabrahma. If one worships and devotes himself to music, he can achieve greater heights. I thank Swathi Thirunal Maharaja who played an important role in introducing violin in Carnatic music,” said M S Goplakrishnan. 

 

Parur M S Gopalakrishnan honoured M Subramania Sarma, former Head of the Department of Violin, who received the Pappa Venkatamaiah Award from Music Academy, Chennai at the inaugural function.

 

Neyveli Radhakrishna, Chitravina M Ravikiran, Professor P S Vanajam, Principal of Music College and Dr M N Moorthy, Head of the Department of Violin were also present at the inaugural function.

 

 

 

The inaugural function was followed by the lecture demonstration of Parur M S Gopalakrishnan‘s session on the ‘Origin and Evolution of Violin Methodology on Practice, Fingering and Bowing techniques’ at 11 am.

Exponents of international repute in the field of Carnatic music, scholars and professors will interact with the music lovers of the city for two more days.
