Trivandrum: Getting to Agastyarkoodam this year got a wee bit easier with the enabling of online booking. Soon after the forest department’s announcement this year the website was flooded with visitors. The booking was over within three hours of registration commencing.

The booking for this year’s pilgrimage started at 8 a.m. and was over by 11 a.m. 3,400 passes for the year, from January 15 to February 17, were booked by then. Normally, it takes a few days for the booking to be complete. Though there was online booking last year as well this was the first time that this system functioned well. Apart from a few complaints everything went well, as per sources.

A total of 100 people are allowed per day to Agastyarkoodam, which is a 1,868-metre (6,129 ft)-tall peak within Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats of South India. The mountain lies in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala and the Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts of Tamil Nadu. This peak is a part of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve which lies on the border between the Indian states of Kerala (in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram district) and Tamil Nadu (in Kanyakumari district, Tirunelveli district).
