After a highly successful 2011, Jayaram is back with another family drama titled ‘Njanum Ente Familyum’. The cast includes Mamta, Manoj K Jayan, Mythili and Jagathy Sreekumar. The film has been directed by K K Rajeev who is a well-known name in Malayali households due to his eyeball grabbing serials, that have kept the audiences glued to the TV sets. The evergreen genre of family dramas has worked in Malluwood and Jayaram has always been a favourite among family audiences. Njanum Ente Familyum is yet another film from that genre.
The film narrates the tale of a highly talented and successful cardiologist Dr. Dinan (Jayaram) who sacrifices his holidays for the sake of his patients. But no worries on his domestic life because he has a very understanding wife Priya (Mamta).
The movie starts of at a decent pace but thereafter loses steam. K K Rajeev who is known for his intense and gripping serials does not succeed in his narration here. He appears to be still stuck in the cocoon of serials and the effect is visible in most of the scenes that are dragging. The script is half-baked and as a result, it tells on the performances. The theme is something viewers have seen many times before and the dull presentation spoils things further. Music is decent but nothing note-worthy. The cinematography is lacklustre and the serial touch is felt. |
Coming to the performances, Jayaram gets a meaty role after a while and he grabs the opportunity with both hands. He has done a good job and stands out in an otherwise insipid film. Mamta has hardly anything to do apart from looking good and that she does effortlessly. Manoj K Jayan has got some really interesting characters in the past couple of years and here also, he does a really good job in the short role. Mythily also impresses with her performance. However the direction and slow pace of the script hampers the effect of the performances. As a result, the film is a boring watch for the viewers.
On the whole, Njanum Ente Familyum is an average family drama. The
initial moments of the film are promising but then as the film moves on,
the setting gets duller. The film is not pathetic but then there is
nothing outstanding about it either.
