TechTalk: Review - Canon PowerShot A3100 IS
The most recent entrant, Canon's PowerShot A3100 IS eclipses its predecessor, PowerShot A1100 IS | By Yentha

A recent addition to Canon's series of point and shoot Powershot cameras, the PowerShot A3100 IS replaces the best selling PowerShot A1100 IS as one of Canon's most compact cameras.

The 4X optical zoom lens has optical image stabilisation and the A3100 IS comes packed with DIGIC III image processor and smart auto shooting mode. The low-light-shooting mode guarantees decent image quality even in low light.

You can review the pictures you took in the 2.7 inch LCD screen.

The Lithium ion battery back instead of the standard AA batteries ensure that the A3100 IS is more compact and easy to carry than most of it's rivals. The slim and lightweight A3100 IS is available in three different colours.

The Canon Powershot A3100 IS has an anti-shake system called IS Mode - which compensates for blurring of images due to camera shake. The A3100 IS has a very quick startup time of 1.5 seconds within which the camera gets ready to take pictures. There is a short black-out of the LCD between each image being recorded which takes up about 0.5 seconds, making it quite good for clicking back to back pictures.

The major drawback of the A3100 IS is that it doesn't offer HD movie recording. Instead it records video at 640x480 VGA at 30fps with mono sound.
