Salt N Pepper is director Aashiq Abu’s second directorial venture, after the successful ‘Daddy Cool’, with mega star Mammooty. Salt N Pepper has Lal and Swetha Menon in the lead. Emerging actor Asif Ali, and Mythili, of ‘Palerimanikyam’ fame, also plays major roles in this food themed movie. The Malayalam rock band ‘Avail’ gives the sound track to the film. Lal, the versatile all rounder of Malayalam movie industry, enacts the role of ‘Kathali Parambil Kalidasan’, an archeologist, a semi cook, and a food critic. ‘Maya’, a dubbing artiste, played by Swetha Menon, comes into contact with Kalidasan through their mutual love for food. Later, their occasional phone chats develops into a bond of love between them. Asif Ali, as Kalidasan’s nephew ‘Manu Raghav’, and Mythili, as Maya’s roommate ‘Meenakshi’, plays the second lead in the film.

Avial in Salt N' Pepper

By composing the sound track for Salt N Pepper with ‘Anakallan’, Avail marks their debut in the film world. Mythili, who had been waiting for good roles ever since the critically acclaimed ‘Palerimanikyam’, gets her wish fulfilled through Meenakshi, who is an IELTS student, hoping to make it to Canada in the movie. The character of Kalidasan also proves to be different from the rest of the various characters that actor Lal has donned during his two decade long career in the industry. Nedumudi Venu, Baburaj, Kalpana are some of the other stars who play a part in the movie.

Actor Asif Ali is all praise for the movie. “Salt N Pepper is the most enjoyable film that I have acted in my career. It is a new generation film, with focus on comedy.” He has high opinions about the director of the film as well. “Aashiq Abu was very easy to work with. He is an extremely talented film maker, who knows how to bring out the best from his actors.” The cast of the movie is essentially young, save for Lal, who ranks as a senior. But Asif Ali insists to differ on that. ”Yes, Lal was the only senior actor in the crew, but he was the most energetic one among all of us. He has more youth left in him than any of us, it seemed, while shooting for the movie”

The film is a fun filled light hearted comedy, penned down by newcomer Shyam Pushkaran and Dileep Nair.

Music is by Bijipal while Shyju Kahlid, who made his debut with the blockbuster ‘Traffic’, is the man behind the camera. The film, produced by Lucsam Creations and distributed by Lal Release, is slated to hit the theatres on 24 June.
