Musician Balamuralikrishna Gets Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram
Kerala Government to honour renowned musician Balamuralikrishna for his outstanding contributions | By Yentha

Trivandrum: Acclaimed musician Balamuralikrishna has been chosen for Kerala Government's prestigious Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram, 2012.

The award instituted in 1997, is presented to honour persons who make outstanding contributions in the field of classical music. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will present the award, carrying Rs. 1 lakh, citation and a plaque at a function to be held at the Durbar Hall of the Secretariat here on March 20.

Balamuralikrishna was selected by a jury comprising of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Chairman Soorya Krishnamoorthy, Culture Department Secretary Sajan Peter, Calicut University Music Department Head Jalaja Varma, Hindustani musician Ramesh Narayan and singer Sreevalsan J Menon.

Dr Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Bismilla Khan, D K Pattamal, Palakkad K V Narayana Swamy, Bhimsen Joshi, Neyyattinkara Vasudevan, K J Yesudas were some of the earlier recipients of the award.
