Trivandrum: “The society should not look down at the exploited women. People should be open to those women who report harassment issues,” said Dr. B Sandhya IPS while inaugurating the Terumo Penpol Women’s Cell (TPWC) here today.

TPWC is an exclusive wing for women to provide support for women employees by promoting a gender sensitive work culture at Terumo Penpol Limited. This blood bag and medical devices manufacturing company in India which has been functioning since 1985 employs 1054 people of which 134 are women.

“Women in Kerala should be empowered by giving them basic legal awareness about remedies available under various laws, in instances of harassment, domestic violence and child abuse,” she added.

B Sandhya also released The Guidelines for Working of the Women’s Cell at the function.

“We all know that atrocities against women are increasing in Kerala nowadays. It may not be the best place for a young girl to grow up, but we can at least try to do our best to provide good working conditions for women in TPL,” said C Balagopal, Managing Director Terumo Penpol Limited (TPL).

C Padmakumar, Executive Director, TPL stated that the management will provide complete support for Women’s cell. “The key objective of the Cell should be to bring awareness to all associates on the matter of gender sensitivity, rights of women, and what constitutes sexual harassment,” he said.

The union representatives of TPL welcomed the initiative of the management and assured their cooperation for the functioning of the Women’s cell.

It is a good step by our management when the Parliament is still discussing the Protection of Women Against Sexual Harassment at the Workplace Bill,” said Vilappil Radhakrishnan, Terumo Penpol Employees Union leader.
