The film depicts the ill effects of chemical farming and the role of organic farming in the creation of a healthy world. It shows how beneficial organic farming and the use of locally available resources are in the social, economic and environmental aspects, with  solid scientific support. This is the only short film from India to be officially selected for the festival. The screening of the film is scheduled for November 11, in Trento.

Venu Nair says, “The chemicals applied in agriculture have deleterious effects on the human body. The quantity of these toxic substances in the food we consume is also large. The frantic efforts to step up food production to match the fast growth in world population hasve resulted in very serious consequences. My film highlights the message of how effective organic farming is for the society, while underlining the harmful effects of chemical fertilizers.”

‘Farming Our Future’ already has several awards in its kitty. In 2009, the film received the ‘Kerala State Television Award for the Best Director and Producer Award for Science and Environment Documentary’, instituted by the Kerala Chalachitra Academy. It also received International Recycling Fund Award 2009 from the Republic of Slovakia at the 36th International Film Festival of Sustainable Development Films Ekotopfilm 2009.
