Airport, Trivandrum:  The new terminal of Trivandrum Airport is set to open by mid-September, and the Prime Minister will inaugurate the terminal later. The domestic terminal will also be shifted to the new terminal soon after.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has instructed that the new terminal be opened as soon as work is completed. In accordance with the instructions, the different airways and immigration agencies etc. are getting ready to shift office. The new terminal will start functioning once the CISF and the Director of Civil Aviation give their approval. The Director is yet to give the license approving the facilities in the terminal. The facilities to be evaluated include fire and environmental clearance.

The final decision on deploying the CISF in the terminal is yet to be approved. The CISF is the official security force at airports.

Once the terminal is open, international travelers will have to pay the User's Fee of Rs. 755.

While the terminal is planned to be used for integrated domestic-international purposes, it will be just used as the international terminal during the first few months. After the old terminal has been shifted, it might be leased out as a shopping mall. The Air Force has also expressed their interest in using the old terminal.

The new terminal has an area of over 3.5 lak square feet. It can also accommodate 650 cars in its parking area. The entry into the new terminal will be via the ramp set up near Ananthapuri Hospital, in the bypass road.
