Kowdiar, Trivandrum: Sachin Tendulkar has received yet another honour. This time, by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The IAF has conferred him the rank of Group Captain, for his contribution to Indian Cricket for 20 years. He will be the brand ambassador of the IAF.

The IAF Chief Marshal PV Naik has presented the master blaster with wings. “It is the greatest honour bestowed on me,” said Tendulkar, at a press conference. "Join the IAF and serve your country. Chase your dreams, because your dreams will come true," said an elated Tendulkar after being conferred the rank. “I understand how difficult it is when one has to take the responsibility of guarding the nation. I would want to experience the real thing (after a mention of the movie ‘Top Gun’). I would love to get into the aircraft.”

Tendulkar is the first sportsperson to get the honour. He has called upon the youth of India to join the IAF.

He has also broken his silence on the match-fixing scandal. “I’ll rather worry about scoring runs than fixing scandals. The authorities will take proper action.  Let cricket be a clean game.”

S Ramesh, Director, Kerala Cricket Association, Cricket Academy, says: “More than a cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar is a celebrity and an icon for the Indian youngsters. By honouring him as the brand ambassador of the IAF, I believe a lot of youngsters will be inspired to join the force. It is a really great decision. It is a great gesture by the IAF to recognise a great sportsperson.”
