| Trivandrum: The Kerala High Court has ordered the elections for self-government bodies to be conducted in one phase before November 1. The State Election Commission (SEC) has been given the discretion to finalise the dates. The division bench of Kerala HC gave the verdict in the wake of the plea submitted by the Kerala Government. The government had stated that they would not be able to conduct the election in different phases, because this would cause double voting in six districts, which would be uneconomical. The Court also observed that, if the elections are conducted in different phases, it will cause administrative difficulties. The State Election Commission (SEC) has informed the court that they are planning to hold the election on October 22 or 25. The Court also directed the SEC to suggest an interim measure to run the institutions after the current office bearers leave office and before the next take charge. The SEC should also complete the entire electoral procedure before November 1. |
