City To Host Barcelona Fest

KANAKAKUNNU: As part of cultural exchange between Spanish city of Barcelona and Trivandrum, the city is all set to host a Barcelona festival from May 23 to 26.

Organised by the Embassy of Spain and Kerala Tourism, the four-day festival will have different art and dance forms from Spain.

“One of the main goals of the project is to promote co-operation between both cultural communities and spread the culture of Barcelona in India in order to foster a dialogue between their different cultural views and expressions,” a statement here said.

The inaugural function will be held at Nishagandhi Auditorium on May 23 followed by a music concert of Jerald Quintana, where he will introduce his brand new album. In the afternoon there will be a children's film festival.  
The Barcelona festival will be staged at Nishagandhi, Kanakakkunnu Palace, Tagore Theatre and Kalabhavan. The popular fusion band, Gertrudis, will be conducting traditional musical shows during the fest. They are known for their fusion of flamenco with rumba, reggae, cumbia and the rhythms of East.

Top five Spanish films will be screened at Kalabhavan as part of the festival. The Barcelona festival is conducted as part of the cultural exchange programme between Trivandrum and Barcelona.
